Jacquelyn J. “Jackie” Kafka, Age 65, of Wausau, formerly of Chili, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and with Pink Floyd playing softly in the background, early Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026, at her home under the care of Aspirus Home Hospice of Wausau.
Jackie was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Wausau on January 10, 1961, the daughter of Gerald and Germaine (Schoenfuss) Kafka. She was a graduate of Stratford High School and continued her education with the goal of becoming a veterinary technician. Her love for animals led her to work as a veterinary technician in El Paso, Texas, as well as in Marshfield. She later found a new path in healthcare and was most recently employed as a physical therapist assistant at Doctors of Physical Therapy in Marshfield.
In 2006, Jackie met Robert Garrett, and the two quickly discovered they had found something special in one another. Their shared love of adventure, the outdoors, and life itself made them a perfect match. They sealed their commitment to one another on June 16, 2023, in a simple ceremony in Abbotsford. Jackie and Robert shared many adventures together until his passing on January 24, 2025.
Jackie was an adventurer at heart and loved spending time outdoors. She enjoyed camping, canoeing, climbing, backpacking and hiking, often finding joy in exploring new trails and taking in the beauty of nature. She also enjoyed playing disc golf and could always appreciate a little friendly competition. When she wasn’t out exploring, Jackie enjoyed spending time in her flower garden and listening to music.
Jackie also had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. Her beloved fur baby, Rascal, held a very special place in her heart and was a constant companion who brought her tremendous love and happiness.
Jackie will be remembered for her adventurous spirit and the many memories she created with the people and animals she loved. She leaves behind her siblings, Kenny (Debra) Kafka of Janesville, Diane (Duane) Knetter of Edgar, Sandra Picard of Minneapolis, MN, Randy Kafka of Hamburg, Donna Varney of Wausau, and Terence (Shelly) Kafka of Wausau; her beloved fur baby, Rascal; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband and fellow adventurer, Robert Garrett; her parents, Gerald and Germaine Kafka; brothers-in-law, Richard Picard and Steve Varney; and sister-in-law, Gloria Kafka.
In keeping with Jackie’s wishes, no formal services will be held.
Jackie’s life was filled with adventure, love, animals, and the beauty of the outdoors. Though she has now set off on her final adventure, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain with those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer is honored to assist Jackie’s family with her final arrangements.
