One Person Killed in Buggy vs Pickup Crash Just Northeast of Granton in Clark County

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the crash at about 6:39 PM, on Friday, July 17th, 2026. Initial investigation indicates that a full-sized Chevrolet pickup was driving west on Pine Creek Road near Meridian Ave.

As it entered the intersection of Meridian Ave, a horse and buggy traveling north, entered the intersection and was struck by the pickup truck. The horse and buggy failed to stop and yield the right of way at a stop sign.

The pickup truck came to rest in the north ditch of Pine Creek Road west of the intersection and the buggy came to rest on the roadway west of the intersection.
The pickup driver was Zechariah J. Drinka, 19 years old.

Zechariah and one passenger in the truck were both uninjured and wearing their seatbelts. The buggy was being operated by Eli Miller, 18 years old, from the Granton area. Eli was transported to the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield by the Life Link Helicopter. Eli was the only occupant of the horse and buggy and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The Granton Area Fire and First Responders responded to the scene with the Neillsville Area Ambulance Service, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Life Link Helicopter. The investigation of the crash is continuing by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Clark County Coroner’s Office. This is Clark County’s 3 rd traffic fatality of 2026.
