(Kaoyeng Lee, WAOW) After more than 90 years in Marshfield, Weinbrenner Shoe Company is celebrating a new chapter with the opening of its new manufacturing facility.

According to Kaoyeng Lee with wAOW, community members, employees and city leaders gathered Thursday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the new building, marking a significant milestone for the company known for producing Thorogood work boots worn across the country.

“It’s just a great feeling for us being here today,” says Weinbrenner Shoe Company President Jeff Burns. “It gives us chills. It’s really an exciting event and we’re just proud.” Burns said the celebration was also a reflection of the support the company has received from the Marshfield community over the decades.

“The community has really supported us for 90 years,” says Burns. “To have this many people show up and help us celebrate the opening of this factory is humbling.” The new facility will feature a brand new factory/office area and a Thorogood retail store. City leaders say the company’s decision to remain in Marshfield is important for the local economy and workforce.

“Having manufacturing jobs in your city is so important,” says Marshfield City Council President Scott Koran. “It’s really great that they stayed here. The building itself is wonderful. It’s fantastic for our community.” The move also creates new opportunities for the company’s former facility.

Koran said city leaders are exploring plans to redevelop the old Weinbrenner building into affordable housing. “Right now, it looks like we’re going to pursue affordable housing in that building,” says Koran. “But it’s the start of a long journey to get where we’re heading.”

As Weinbrenner settles into its new home, Burns said the company remains committed to manufacturing footwear in Wisconsin and hopes to continue growing in Marshfield for generations to come. “We’re proud to be American made, proud to be in Wisconsin, proud to be in Marshfield,” says Burns. “We hope to be here another 90 years.”

The event marks an exciting new chapter for Thorogood, Weinbrenner and the City of Marshfield.
