(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau man found guilty of killing Mai Rue Vang during an argument in 2021 will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Umberto Lo was sentenced Monday afternoon, four months after he was found guilty at trial.
Judge LaMont Jacobson gave him the mandatory life sentence, then announced that he would not be eligible for parole. Court records show five people gave victim impact statements during the hearing.
Marathon County District Attorney Theresa Wetzsteon also addressed the court prior to Judge Jacobson’s decision. Lo and Vang had been in a rocky relationship. According to her family, she had applied for a restraining order against him.
The couple did have children together, who were not harmed in the incident. The trial wrapped on January 26th after just five days. Jurors deliberated less than two hours before returning the guilty verdict.
