Bernard “Bernie” A. Wenzel, 81, Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Marshfield Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield where military rites will be conducted by VFW Mueller-Hintz Post #1866 Marshfield. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Bernie was born on April 21, 1943 in Marshfield to George “Lefty” and Georgia (Ritger) Wenzel. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Columbus Catholic High School in 1961. Bernie enlisted in the Navy Reserve his senior year and then the United States Navy after high school graduation. He was proud of his service in Pensacola, FL and San Diego, CA. After discharge, Bernie worked at the Naval Air Station in North Island, San Diego, CA.

Some of Bernie’s favorite memories include, rafting the Colorado River, camping in the desert, and traveling and camping in Mexico in his van with his lifelong friend Bob.

When Bernie returned to Wisconsin, he enjoyed being at the family cottage near Tomahawk. His other hobbies included woodworking, gardening, fixing and repairing anything, and reading. His favorite places were The Daily Grind, the library, and Brown’s Bar. Just about every senior in the neighborhood could count on Bernie to come by with his snow blower and snow shovel in the winter and his lawn mower in the summer.

He is survived by his brothers, George D. Wenzel of Marshfield and Anthony “Tony” (Denise) Wenzel of Mosinee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
