Central Wisconsin saw the first severe storms and even tornadoes of the spring and summer season Tuesday evening.

The National Weather service issued severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings for Clark, Wood, Marathon, Clark, and Taylor. Many counties saw some form of warning or watch posted Tuesday evening.

At 7:47pm, a tornado was confirmed 13 miles east of Abbotsford. The National Weather Service also said they received a report of a tornado on the ground near Unity and Spencer.

Indeed, video and photos posted to Facebook show extensive damage to the Unity area with downed trees and power lines, damage to homes, and more.

There were also reports of downed trees, power lines, and power outages in Marshfield, Stratford, Wisconsin Rapids, Neillsville, Loyal, Greenwood, and throughout central Wisconsin.

The Marshfield Parks and Recreation Department asks patrons to avoid Hillside Cemetery today (Wednesday, May 22nd) due to multiple trees and branches down from the storm Tuesday night.

If you have any cemetery concerns, please contact our Technical Services Coordinator, Amy Beauchamp, at 715-486-2045 or by e-mail at Amy.beauchamp@ci.marshfield.wi.us.
