The Wood County Sheriff’s Department has received reports of a familiar scam making the rounds again.
The Sheriff’s Department has been notified of scam calls reaching residents again where the scammer is alleging to be one of the Department’s staff and saying the person receiving the call needs to make a payment associated with missing jury duty.
Again, the Department reminds residents to not give financial information or detailed personal information out over the phone. If you feel something is “off” with the call, hang up and contact a known, published number for dispatch to verify the call.
As a reminder, they will never ask for payment, gift cards, or cryptocurrency to resolve a matter.
