On Sunday, October 18th, around 10:10pm, the Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department (MFRD) was dispatched to Forte Opening Solutions, located at 1401 East 4th Street in Marshfield, for a reported explosion with visible fire and smoke.
MFRD responded with eight personnel and arrived to find fire and smoke in multiple areas of the facility, which houses a system of piping and conveyors used to transport sawdust and other wood by products.
A Box Alarm was activated to provide additional resources, bringing mutual aid assistance from the Hewitt Area Volunteer Fire Department and Central RIT. Fire crews used an aerial device to extinguish much of the fire.
However, fire had extended into the facility’s piping and conveyor systems, creating additional areas of fire that were difficult to access and extinguish. A total of sixteen firefighters operated at the scene for approximately four hours to control and extinguish the fire.
The cause remains under investigation.
