Freda was born on March 1, 1930, in Chippewa Falls, the third of 14 children born to John and Helen (Rossman) Green. She attended Popple Hill, McCarty, and Hertel Country Schools near Stanley. Before her marriage, Freda worked in the Webster area doing housework. On November 10, 1947, she married Dever Green in Pine City, Minnesota. Together, they shared 67 years of marriage and raised four children. Sadly, Dever passed away in 2014.
Following their marriage, Freda and Dever made their home in Loyal, where they owned and operated a dairy farm from 1947 until 1981. In 1991, they moved to Rozellville. Although retired from farming, Freda continued to work outside the home. She worked for Libera Manufacturing in Abbotsford, as a housekeeper at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, and seasonally for Figi’s. Later, Freda and Dever built a home in the Otter Lake area, where they lived for a time. While living there, Freda worked as a housekeeper at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls. They eventually returned to Loyal, where Freda continued to reside.
Freda enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and gardening. She especially enjoyed farming and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Fishing on Otter Lake was another favorite pastime. Freda and Dever also loved traveling throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota and took several trips out West. One of Freda’s greatest joys was the 39 years she spent square dancing with her husband and dance partner, Dever.
Freda was a member of Loyal United Methodist Church, Circle 8 Square Dance Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Loyal.
Survivors include one daughter, Alice (Ron) Krause of Woodstock, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Barbara Green of Mosinee; one sister, Barbara Moser of New Hope, Minnesota; brothers-in-law, Olgot Rufshol of Stacy, Minnesota and Don Petska of Wausau; five grandchildren, Virginia, Theresa, Tina, Billy, and Michael; and 11 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Christina, Kevin, Justin, Michael, Corben, Halie, Owynn, Christian, Jacob, and Nick. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
