(Caitlin Shuda, Wausau Daily Herald) Health officials have confirmed two new measles cases in Marathon County, bringing the county’s total to five.

According to Caitlin Shuda with the Wausau Daily Herald, that’s according to a Sept. 30 release from the Marathon County Health Department, which stated there are no known community exposure locations and public health officials are monitoring each case and conducting routine follow-ups with individuals and their care teams.

The first case of measles in Marathon County was reported Sept. 18, and two additional cases were confirmed and announced Sept. 23. According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services website, there were 214 cases of measles in Wisconsin as of Sept. 29 and 213 of those cases were in unvaccinated patients. No deaths have been reported in Wisconsin.

According to the Sept. 30 release, measles activity continues to rise across the state, although since not everyone seeks medical care or testing, there may be additional cases that have not yet been identified.
