The Wood County Sheriff Dept is investigating a fatal one vehicle accident that occurred on 09/20/2026.
At approximately 8:39 am emergency dispatchers received a call reporting a single vehicle accident involving roll over and ejection. The Wood County Sheriff Dept and Pittsville Ambulance responded to the intersection of Hwy E and Hwy 54 in the town of Hiles in Wood County.
Initial evidence indicated the vehicle left the roadway and collided with the ditch rolling over and ejecting the male driver. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
The driver of the vehicle, a 70 yr old male, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.
The Wood County Corners office was contacted to assist with this crash and investigation.
