The Marshfield Common Council approved the appointment of a new council member to complete the unexpired term of former alderperson Natasha Tompkins.
The Council approved the appointment of John White Jr. to fill that position. During the City Administrator’s comments, he informed the Council that he had to make an emergency authorization to replace a rooftop cooling unit for $11,000; otherwise, the city could have seen a catastrophic IT failure.
In approving the consent agenda, they authorized soliciting bids for Fire Department Live Fire Training Structure. The Council also heard a presentation on AI data centers.
A representative from Clean Wisconsin explained the difference between a data center and an AI data center and the energy and environmental impacts of AI data centers here in Wisconsin.
The Council also approved a budget resolution refunding $78,000 in parkland dedication fees. That money came from the economic development fund.
It must go back to developers that paid them. The funds, which need to be spent on new amenities or a brand new park, need to be returned because they were not spent within the allotted time.
The Council also approved a budget resolution purchasing a second shared-ride van for taxi operations. This was already budgeted for and spent in 2025, but it was a clerical error that required the resolution.
The Council also approved to accept the Findings of Facts and Recommendation from the Judiciary and License Committee regarding the “Class B” liquor license of Purkis Properties LLC and direct Alderperson Delis to issue written Findings of Fact and Recommendations.
The Council also discussed the possible detachment of land from the City of Marshfield near the northwest corner of West McMillan Street/St. Joseph’s Avenue for a potential housing development. No action was taken, but it will be brought back to the August 25th meeting.
Finally, the Council also had the first reading of accepting John White Jr. to fill the unexpired term of Natasha Tompkins on the Marshfield Utilities Commission.
