Becker’s compiled a list of hospitals that earned five-star ratings for nurse communication in each state, according to CMS’ Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems data.

CMS shares 10 HCAHPS star ratings based on publicly reported HCAHPS measures. For nurse communication, data from HCAHPS survey questions are used. These questions summarize how well patients feel that their nurses explained things clearly, listened carefully to them, and treated them with courtesy and respect. The data was collected between July 2024 and June 2025, and released on May 15. Thirty-eight more hospitals were awarded five stars for nurse communication this year compared to last year.

Some local Wisconsin hospital recognized include:

  • Aspirus Medford Hospital and Clinics
  • Black River Memorial Hospital (Black River Falls)
  • Mayo Clinic Health System Oakridge (Osseo)
  • Tomah Memorial Hospital
