Bicyclists and veteran advocates will hit the pavement from July 31 to August 2, 2026, for The Highground’s 42nd Annual Heroes Ride Bike Tour.
This multi-day, multi-route journey bridges communities across the state to support military veterans and their families as they navigate the unseen trauma of military service. This year, three routes will embark on a three-day ride, averaging 60 miles each day, with the fourth route setting out on a two-day ride, a true display of resilience and teamwork.
This beloved tradition fosters a wonderful sense of community among veterans, families and supporters committed to remembrance and healing. It all started in 1985 when Vietnam Veteran Tom Miller courageously rode 1,244 miles across Wisconsin, dedicating each mile to the 1,244 service members from the state who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War.
The ride has evolved into The Highground Heroes Ride Bike Tour, a celebrated event that brings together veterans, families and devoted supporters, and serves as an essential fundraiser for The Highground. This ride brings generations together. Seasoned veterans share their stories with riders as young as 10 years old who tackle the same three-day, 170-mile route as the pros.
Each year, the organization celebrates returning participants, welcome newcomers, and honor the memories of those who have been lost, all of which enrich the legacy of this remarkable ride. This journey encompasses months of preparation, dedication and hard work as riders face fatigue, blisters and unpredictable Wisconsin weather.
Arriving at The Highground on August 2 brings more than just a beautiful view, however; they will be greeted by a community of Vietnam Veteran Reunion guests along with family and friends ready to shower them with the recognition and gratitude they deserve.
The Highground is deeply grateful to returning riders whose continued support forms the bedrock of this event and welcomes new participants to the road ahead. Bicyclists who are interested are invited to reach out to their nearest route leaders soon to get rolling.
