Marshfield Man Arrested for Recklessly Endangering Safety Appears in Wood County Court

A Marshfield man arrested for recklessly endangering safety appeared in Wood County Court on Monday.

On May 5, 2026, at approximately 7:39 p.m., the Marshfield Police Department was called to a residence in the 1000 block of South Oak Avenue in the City of Marshfield, Wisconsin, for a report of a male discharging a handgun at a victim. The male was identified as Brian Velez-Rodriguez, 32, of Marshfield.

The victim was not injured and was able to flee the residence with her family. Officers responded to the scene and gave commands for Velez-Rodriguez to exit the residence and surrender. He refused to comply. The Marshfield Special Response Team and the Wood County Sheriff’s Department Special Response Team responded to assist.

Crisis negotiators communicated with Velez-Rodriguez over the course of several hours, but he remained inside the residence. A search warrant was obtained. On May 6, 2026, at approximately 1:42 a.m.,Velez-Rodriguez eventually exited the residence and was taken into custody. No injuries occurred during the incident and there is no current threat to the public.

Velez-Rodriguez is facing charges of 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety, convicted out of state felon in possession of a firearm, resisting or obstructing an officer, bail jumping, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct – domestic abuse.

During his arraignment on Monday, he entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him. He’s scheduled to be back in court on August 27th.
