(Sirena Mankins, Editor of the Hub City Times) A wooden playground that has delighted Marshfield families for more than two decades is getting a makeover, and the community is invited to help make it happen.

According to Sirena Mankins, Editor of the Hub City Times, MACCI Leadership Marshfield is working to bring the playground at Griese Park into its next iteration, with a vision for a play space unlike anything in the area.

The new project calls for a $500,000 space that organizers describe as a “destination playground” designed to promote overall health, wellness and inclusion for all ages and abilities.

The group’s latest fundraising effort is a community picnic scheduled for Aug. 12 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the park, located at 1001 E. 29th St. The family-friendly event will feature food trucks, face painting, rock painting, a free throw contest, a bike parade at 6 p.m. and bubble dance party.

Attendees are asked to bring picnic blankets, sports equipment, bikes for the parade and cash for activity tickets, which cost $10 for a pack of 10. Volunteers are still needed for the Aug. 12 event.

Additional information is available on the Griese Park Playground Renovation Facebook page. Griese Park is a 20-acre community park that includes trails, a playground, natural areas and recreational facilities.

Many local families return to the current playground for its whimsical, unique wooden atmosphere, while recognizing the need for continuous repair. Recent fundraising updates show the project has raised $717,500 toward a $725,000 mini-goal, with construction planned for 2025-2026.

Forward Bank committed $100,000 to the project in April, citing the importance of outdoor spaces where children can play freely and connect with others.
