Mary Ann Nielsen, born June 25, 1938, passed away peacefully at home under the care of Aspirus Hospice on May 23, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Mary Ann was the daughter of Frank and Anna (Isberner) Imbach. She grew up in Schofield, Wisconsin and graduated from DC Everest High School in 1957.
In January 1958 she met Ken Nielsen while he was working at Tornow’s IGA in Rib Mountain. They were married on July 2,1960. Together they raised 3 children, Anna, Greg and Kelly. They have lived in Rib Mountain most of their lives
In September 1969, she started to work in food service at the Hoffman House. Later she also worked at Wausau Child Care and at Wausau Insurance.
As a family they enjoyed many camping trips. Later in life Ken and Mary Ann enjoyed traveling to many spots in the US. They spent some winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama and Mesa, Arizona.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband (for 64 years) Ken Nielsen, Children Anna Zunker, Greg (Cindy) Nielsen, and Kelly (Paul) Hamerla. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matt Zemke, Heather Zemke, Josh (Jaycie) Nielsen, Sam Nielsen, Jacob (Alyssa) Hamerla and Naomi Hamerla. Great Grand Children, Sierra Zemke, Trinity Shanks, Ori Shanks and Dylan Shanks. Brother-in-Law Russ (Judi) Nielsen, Sister-In Laws Nancy Prigge and Susan Imbach along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Anna Imbach, siblings, Charles (MaryAnn) Maves, Bruce Maves, Janice (Gerry) Gonwa, Gertrude (Robert) Poplin, Maxine Maves, Betty (Paul) Reissman, and Frank Imbach, son-in laws Pat Zemke and David Zunker and grandson Travis Zemke.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in celebration of Mary Ann’s life may be directed to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, C/O the Aspirus Health Foundations; 425 Pine Ridge Boulevard, Wausau, WI 54401.
Service will be held at Rib Mountain Lutheran Church, 227150 Harrier Avenue, Wausau, WI, on Friday June 6, 2025. Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 11:00 am followed by a Memorial service at 11 am.
