The Wausau Police Department is preparing to temporarily operate an emergency night shelter for those experiencing homelessness in the community, running from May 1 through December 31.
They recognize the importance of collaboration, especially with churches and faith-based organizations. To that end, Chief Matthew Barnes is inviting clergy (i.e., priests, pastors, elders, deacons, etc.) and directors, and other representatives from Wausau and Marathon County’s faith community to a meeting on Tuesday, April 22, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at the Wausau Police Department.
The purpose of the meeting is to:
- Share the current plan for the emergency shelter;
- Discuss opportunities for churches to partner with us, including volunteer support in areas such as hospitality and meal service.
A link is provided below to RSVP. If you’re unable to attend, you’ll still be able to leave feedback and share your thoughts so your voice can be heard. They value the heart and hands of the faith community and hope you’ll join them as they seek to meet this urgent need with compassion and unity.
