On Tuesday, April 8, the Cornerstone Project from UW-Whitewater’s Wheelchair basketball team put on an assembly for Colby School District grades 6-12 in the high school gym.
The goal is to promote disability awareness within our schools and community. Jake Williams coaches at UW Whitewater & is a three-time Paralympian with 3 gold medals and a World Championship.
This past summer Jake was MVP of the Paralympic games in Paris. Mada McCabe helped with the assembly, she plays for the UW Whitewater Women’s team. Students were picked randomly by grade to participate in wheelchair basketball.
The 9th graders beat the 11th graders in the first game. The 12th graders beat the 10th graders in the second game. The 9th grade beat the 12th grade in the championship. The staff took on Jake & Mada and with the handicap points given to the staff they were able to come out on top.
