James Roy "Jim" Miller obituary, Wisconsin Rapids, WI

James (Jim) Roy Miller, 82 of Appleton, passed away with his loving family at his side on February 10, 2025.
Jim was born to the late Elmer F. and Mary F. (Weisenberger) Miller on March 26, 1942, in Wausau.
As a child Jim loved to tinker with radios and electronics taking them apart to see how they worked and put them back together. He attended St. Anne and Newman Highschool through graduation. His childhood buddies included Richard Dehnel (Dicky) and Fred Olds.
After graduation Jim headed to Navy schooling, while in school he also worked on the USS Simon Bolivar (SSBN 641) as a Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator-Reactor Controller and Fleet Ballistic Missile Weapons Systems Personnel. He then went on to the U.S. Naval Submarine School and the U.S. Naval Submarine Base in New London, Connecticut. Jim received many achievement awards, National Defense Service Medal, and the First Good Conduct Award for a period ending August 15, 1965. After his time in the military, he worked at Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant as a Control Operator until retirement.
When Jim wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time fishing on Lake Michigan for Salmon and Trout, then smoking them. He was in many pool leagues, enjoyed taking walks, but most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, family and friends when he move back home. He lived in Wausau, WI, Mesa, AZ, Appleton, WI and Mishicot, WI to name a few.
He is survived by his children Corrine Miller, Laurie Miller, grandchildren, Melissa (Aaron) Wegner, Kaylyn Hansen, Curtis Kaas, Ryan Hansen Nathan (Isabella) Verhyen and 7 great grandchildren, siblings, Shirley Mackoway, Susie (Donnie) Schmidt and Judi (Joe) Kressel.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church, Wausau on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Visitation for family and friends will start at 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. followed with burial at Restlawn Cemetery and full Military Honors.
