(Brad Hanson, WAOW) Over the 4th of July weekend, the City of Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department tackled two significant fires.

According to Brad Hanson with WAOW, one occurred at a residence, and the other at the municipal garage. On July 5, a residential fire erupted at 411 11th Street North around 12:32 a.m. The garage was fully involved, spreading to the house and damaging a neighbor’s siding.

Despite downed power lines, all residents were safely evacuated. The following day, at 11:04 a.m., smoke was reported from 1411 Chase Street. Firefighters quickly arrived and extinguished the blaze in a large storage garage containing city vehicles and equipment. The estimated loss was $83,000.

In both incidents, multiple local fire departments assisted, and no injuries were reported. The causes of the fires are under investigation. The Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department’s increased staffing levels were crucial in saving over $1 million in property.
