Colby 6th Graders Test Engineering Skills with Egg Drop Challenge

By Riley Hebert May 6, 2025 | 8:00 AM

Colby 6th-grade students put their engineering skills to the test with an exciting egg drop challenge around Easter time.

Each student designed and built a protective contraption to keep a raw egg safe when dropped from various heights using their knowledge of energy, motion, force, and a whole lot of creativity.  The big twist? The Colby maintenance team joined in the fun too.

Not only did they help out with setup and safety, but they also built their own egg-saving device, which held strong through multiple rounds. It was thrilling to watch each drop and see which designs stood the test.

Every design had a unique approach, and students did an awesome job recording the results and learning from each attempt. It was a fun, hands-on way to explore science and engineering and the excitement in the air was contagious.

The District is so proud of all their students for their creativity, teamwork, and careful data tracking.
