Donald M. Stangl, 92, Marshfield, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025 with his cherished family by his side.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield with Rev. Dan Thelen officiating. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 54 – Marshfield.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield with a Knights of Columbus rosary service at 6:30 pm. Visitation will also take place from 9:30 am until the time of service on Wednesday at the church.

Don was born on July 10, 1932 in Marshfield to Peter and Margaret (Collier) Stangl. He graduated from Marshfield Senior High School. After graduating, he served in the United States Army. His greatest love story began on October 19, 1957 when he married Joan Schellinger, the true love of his life, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Marshfield. Together they built a home and raised a family of 5 children, weathering the challenges and sharing the joys of a beautiful life.

Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, gardening, bowling, spending time at the cabin, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking the Ice Age Trail, being with friends and family, and visiting their best friends, Wayne and Rose Weiler in Alaska. He sang in a barber shop quartet and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Don was a founding member and the first president of the Marshfield Tigers Booster Club. He was also a founding member and board member of the Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, children: Shelby Stangl, Gregg (Judy) Stangl, Renee (Andrew Wagner) Stangl, Jon (Amy Jurgensen) Stangl, and Sara Nordbeck (Mark Wiegert), sisters: Shari Stangl and Nancy Brazell, grandchildren: Jennifer (Will) Latuff, Alec (Hannah) Hannum, Michael (Jenn) Stangl, Mandi (Ian) Carleton, Jill (Stephane Briand) Nikolai, Amy (Kevin Wang) Nikolai, MaryAnn Stangl, Maggie Stangl, Morgan Nordbeck (Luke Behling), and Jack Nordbeck (Tana Albrecht), great grandchildren: Ethan, Max, Sayner, Siena, Hazen, Emma, Gabriel, Raphael, Frederick, Anna, Nolan, and Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Margaret, brother-in-law, Carl Brazell, niece, Cathy Brazell, and nephew-in-law, Adam Townsend.

For those wishing to express their sympathy, the family welcomes donations in lieu of flowers, which will be donated to BEPCO, an organization committed to preserving, protecting and improving the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir, a cause he passionately supported.
