The PDC Orenda Center is holding their 3rd Annual Kick Out Domestic Abuse Family Fun Day in May.
The event will be held on Saturday, May 3rd from 10am to 6pm at a new location, Yellowstone Park in Hewitt. I spoke with Tanya Johnson, Director of Operations at the PDC, and she explained the event and PDC Orenda Center in more detail.
Again, the event is being held on Saturday, May 3rd from 10am to 6pm at Yellowstone Park in Hewitt.

Tanya: “So, the Personal Development Center, we’re a private, nonprofit organization. We were founded in 1977, so we’ve been here for over 50 years. We do serve the greater Marshfield area, so we kind of tip into Marathon County, the surrounding Marshfield area, and we also serve all of Clark County.”
“We are a domestic abuse and sexual assault victim services agency and we do have an emergency shelter here as well. So, we’ve got a lot of different programs and services. We provide different resources to anybody that might be in need or experiencing any type of domestic abuse or sexual assault.”
Riley: “For the past couple years, the PDC has put on the Kick Out Domestic Abuse Family Fun Day and you’ll be doing that again this year. Can you talk about that exactly when and where it’s going to be held, and the different kind of events?”
Tanya: “So, we’re really excited to continue this event. This will be our third year having our annual Kick Out Domestic Abuse Family Fun Day. So, we will be having it on Saturday, May 3rd. We’re doing that from 10am until 6pm ;we’re having it this year at Yellowstone Park and Hewitt.”
“The past couple of years, we had it in Clark County. This year we decided to move it over to Marshfield, so we do have a kickball tournament. So, we’re looking for different teams to register, sign up. It can be any ages, boys, girls. Doesn’t matter.”
“And I guess it’s just kind of like, how many people that you prefer to have on your team? So, if you’ve only got six or you’ve got ten, kind of however many you want. We also have a cornhole tournament that we’ll be doing.”
“We have food trucks this year. So, in the past, we did like some grilling and had food and drinks, and we’ve got multiple different food trucks coming, so we’re excited about that. This year, the Marshfield FFA will be having their petting zoo come and the petting zoo is only going to be there from 10 until two, because then, after that, the animals get a little tired.”
“But we’re excited to have them come. We also have bouncy houses for kids and we’ve got lots and lots of raffle baskets that we’ll be raffling off. We also have some kids Sharpie tattoos this year. So, we have some local tattoo artists that are going to come out and they’re going to do some kids Sharpie tattoos, so that should be fun as well.”
Riley: “If there are people interested in doing like the kickball tournament or the corn hole tournament, they do have to register, correct?”
Tanya: “Yeah, we have our website and, on our website, which is pdcmarshfield.org, you can register. You can call the organization at 715-384-2971, and we can get your team signed up. So, the cornhole teams will be teams of two, and it’s $20 per team.”
“And then again, the kickball teams, you can have whatever number of people you would like, and that’s $100 per team. You can go right online and sign up, register your teams. We will have cash payouts for both the cornhole and the kickable tournaments. And yeah, all ages are welcome to participate.
Riley: “If I remember correctly, this event, the funds that are raised from this event will go to benefit the services provided at the PDC. Is that correct?”
Tanya: “Yeah, all of the funds that are raised this day will go to direct service, so that will help any of our participants. All of our services and programs are free of charge. We don’t charge anybody anything to participants who are staying here in our shelters. So, all of that money will come straight back to benefit individuals in our community.”
