For those that were following along, Wausau Police Lt. Stetzer has returned from Turin, Italy where he was representing Wausau and Special Olympics Wisconsin by carrying the Flame of Hope for the 2025 Special Olympic World Winter Games.

He shared some of his experiences & feelings with us: “During this journey, I had the privilege of rooming with an athlete from Australia. He shared how partnering with law enforcement had opened doors to opportunities he never imagined. The relationships he formed and the inclusion he felt moved him deeply. His words resonated with me.”

“They reminded me of the very purpose of the final leg [of the Law Enforcement Torch Run]: to support the athletes and extend these opportunities to individuals from all corners of the globe. As I reflected on this, I was overwhelmed with emotion, witnessing firsthand the global impact of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. I felt so honored to be part of such a meaningful movement”

While in Italy, Lt. Stetzer was also invited to share some remarks to the athletes, law enforcement officers, officials, and supporters. Again, the Department is proud Lt. Stetzer was selected for this opportunity to represent the department and community and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to Special Olympics mission of “…fostering acceptance, inclusion, and a better world…”
