(Mike Leischner, WSAU) Wausau police say a bar fight led to a stabbing incident on the city’s west side in February, with the subsequent investigation then leading to the discovery of child pornography in the suspect’s possession.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, officers say 33-year-old Seth Menting stabbed a man multiple times during a fight on February 22nd, dealing serious injuries to the 42-year-old victim. Several witnesses stepped in to apply first aid to his wounds until first responders arrived.

Menting fled the scene and discarded the knife, which was later recovered near the Wisconsin River between Wausau and Rib Mountain. Investigators searched his home and found images of child pornography.

He now faces 12 felony counts, including a Class A felony for attempted homicide. That carries an automatic life sentence if he’s found guilty at trial. He also faces 10 counts for possession of child pornography, a Class D felony that carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

All charges carry repeat modifiers due to Menting’s prior felony convictions. The victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries but has recovered. Menting is being held in the Taylor County jail on a half-million dollar bond and will return to court on Monday, March 31st.
