A Neillsville man charged for neglecting a child after the child discovered his handgun and injured her sister appeared in Clark County Court on Thursday.
According to court records, the daughter of the man was looking for a book when she discovered Brandon Woods’ handgun under the couch cushions. She thought it was a toy and pointed it at her sister when it went off and injured her sister. She was taken to Marshfield Medical Center and treated for her injury. The daughter had claimed this wasn’t the first time she had found Woods’ gun, but she didn’t use it.
Woods is facing charges of neglecting a child with the consequence of bodily harm, neglecting a child with no harm and the child being less than six years old, and leaving/storing a loaded firearm near a child.
During his court appearance on Thursday, he waived his preliminary hearing and entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him. However, a plea/sentencing hearing has been scheduled for May 2nd.
