Allen J. Schmidt

Allen J. Schmidt, 98, Pittsville, passed away at Marshfield Medical Center on Monday, February 17, 2025.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Buchanan/Rembs Funeral Home in Pittsville. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by American Legion Post 153 – Pittsville. A meal will be provided following the service at the American Legion, Pittsville. The burial will take place at Brooklawn Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.

Al was the only child born to Clarence and Norma (Riemer) Schmidt on August 28, 1926, in Mequon, Wisconsin.

He attended school in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. In February 1944, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served as a crew chief for aircraft maintenance in the Philippines during World War II. Following his time in the military, Al worked at various jobs in the Milwaukee area. The longest employment was as a repairman for the Coca Cola company. In 1970 the family moved to the Pittsville area. The last 15 years of his working years were spent as custodian for Pittsville High School.

Al was married to Barbara Dickson on May 27, 1985. Sadly, Barbara passed away on November 16, 2021.

Al was a member of Granton Sportman’s Club, Veedum Moravian Church and the Palmer-Ritchie-Thomas American Legion Post, Pittsville. Al was a lover of wildlife and enjoyed hunting and fishing for many years. He also enjoyed taking trips with Barb, riding his ATV, woodworking, and tinkering around the farm.

Al is survived by son David (Faith) Schmidt, daughter Diane (Bill) Gobin; stepchildren Glen (Jane) Dickson, Craig (Wei) Dickson, John Kent (Lori) Dickson, Karen Schmitt, Jan (Karen) Dickson, and Angela (Ivan) Maldonado. Also surviving are grandchildren Laura (Charles) Duerr, Joshua Schmidt, Rachel (Jesse Schminski) Gobin, Kayla (Lucas) Golliet; step-grandchildren April, Tina, Eileen, Arthur, Parker, Holly, Marnie, Tim, Sara, Allyson, James, Mike, and Dustin; great-grandchildren Jonathan, Katherine, Caroline, Lincoln, and Oliver; step-great grandchildren Grace, Benjamin, Andrew, Kaelyn, Easton, Lilliana, Micah, Hayden, Grace, and Evan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; parents Clarence and Norma Schmidt; and step-granddaughter Shelly.
