Carol Jackson obituary, Wisconsin Rapids, WI

Carol Jackson, 81, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
Carol was born February 25, 1943, to Raymond and Alene Zieher (Pinney) in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. She grew up in Port Edwards and graduated from John Edwards High School, where she was a member of the band and served as senior class president. She attended North Central Technical College in Wausau and graduated with a degree in Secretarial Science. After graduation, she worked for Dr. Flannery in Wausau.
Carol was married to her husband, Herb, for almost sixty years. They met in 1962, and despite Herb standing her up on their first date, she gave him another chance…and the rest is history. After they married in 1965, Carol began her career with the Wisconsin Rapids Public School system. She treasured her time as secretary at Rudolph Elementary for more than 25 years.
Herb and Carol loved to travel, especially driving across the United States. Other highlights included honeymooning at Niagara Falls, visiting all 50 states, national parks, cruises, the Panama Canal, and St. Martin. They frequently visited Branson, MO, where they took in many music and comedy shows. They enjoyed visiting Vegas to see the sights and shows. During their travels, they liked to take the scenic routes and often went out of their way to find little casinos to play slot machines. They spent portions of their winters visiting Florida to soak up the sun or staying in Arizona to watch the Brewers’ Spring Training.
Carol attended thousands of sporting events. These included Terri’s and Mike’s little league games, Herb’s fast-pitch games, high school softball and baseball games, Legion baseball, traveling and tournament teams, and many bowling tournaments. She attended hundreds of Brewers and Bucks games and was a fan of Marquette basketball.
Carol loved tending to her plants and flowers. She enjoyed watching birds and shooing away the pesky squirrels from her feeders. She liked going out to eat and meeting up with friends at country music festivals. She cherished time spent with her girlfriends to catch up. She was known for her sense of humor including her sharp wit, and quick comebacks. She had an adventurous spirit and was always up for trying new things.
Carol’s faith was important to her. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran in Wisconsin Rapids and grew up as a member of Trinity Lutheran in Port Edwards, where she was confirmed and later married. After marrying Herb, she was a long-standing member of St. Paul’s Lutheran in Wisconsin Rapids.
The most important thing to her was her family. Carol is survived by her husband, Herbert; son, Mike (Christine) of Mount Pleasant, WI; daughter, Terri, of Wisconsin Rapids; and grandson, Nathan, of Stanwood, WA.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids at 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, January 30, 2025. Pastor Peter Plagenz will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and from 12:00 P.M. until the time of services on Thursday at the church.
Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family.
