Richard (Dick) Francis Altman passed away on January 11, 2025, at the age of 96 years, in Port Edwards, Wisconsin.
He was born December 19, 1928, to Charles and Kathryn Liebl Altman in Auburndale, Wisconsin, the youngest of four children. Dick married Lorraine Angeline Krostag on November 8, 1950. He later served 2 years in the US Army as a heavy equipment mechanic. Dick spent his life working as a mechanic, lumberjack, and bar owner. He liked to hunt, fish and spend time fixing and doing anything mechanical.
Dick and Lorraine raised their family (Shirley, Judy, Lisa, and Bruce) in the Pier-Willow region of northern Wisconsin. Dick left the area in 2010 when he moved south to Warrens to live with his son, Bruce. He really liked to go visit his two daughters and all his grandkids that lived on the east side of the state, until he couldn’t drive anymore. He was well known by his grandkids for the pancakes that he would make while visiting them. Dick spent his final years at Edgewater Nursing Home due to advanced dementia, where he was well cared for.
Dick is survived by his son, Bruce (Cindy) Altman; his son-in-law, Larry Gruss; five grandchildren, Angela, James (Ashley), Lisa, Benjamin (Kassandra), and Danielle (Alex); 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great- great-grandsons and many step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Kathryn; siblings, Raymond, Charles, and Edgar; his wife of 53 years, Lorraine; and three children, Shirley, Judy, and Lisa.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
