An Owen man accused of lighting a raccoon on fire was sentenced in Clark County Court on Tuesday.

According to court records, a Conservation Warden asked Hayden Weiler about a video that had been posted to social media. It has since been taken down, but in it, Weiler is accused of lighting a trapped raccoon on fire. Weiler told the warden that he completely regretted the incident. Weiler pleaded guilty to mistreating animals and accepted a deferred sentencing agreement. He was sentenced to 150 hours of community service for a non-profit related to animal rights or animal rescue.

He must also take a course to rehabilitate and educate people who committed animal abuse and he has to write an essay about why he should prevent animal cruelty. If he meets all the conditions of his sentence, he can have the case dismissed within a few years.
