George Paul Brey, 74, passed on to the next world on June 20th, 2024, with his wife, Marjorie (Guden) Brey, and his daughter, Melissa Brey, by his bedside in his home in Pittsville, Wisconsin. George passed after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer and the unbearable pain of bone cancer. There will be no services upon George’s request.

George was born on July 18th, 1949, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, to Paul H. Brey and Shirley (Dix) Brey. George was Paul’s first-born son. He was raised in the town of Richfield, where he attended Far View Country School; he then went on to Purdy Junior High, then graduated from Marshfield Senior High School in 1967. George then studied engineering at the United Technical Institute in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He began his career as an engineer through the employment of Perry Carrington Engineering Corporation in Marshfield, performing land surveying of properties, as well as surveying for civil engineering projects. George then took on being a construction engineer inspector for survey layouts of construction all over the state of Wisconsin. He was involved in many construction projects over the years that still stand strong today. George also provided engineering services to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics. He was awarded airport engineer of the year for his work at the Taylor County Airport in Medford, Wisconsin, in 1996. He later continued his work, shifting to projects that included highways, public water systems, sanitary sewers, and other airport projects. His hard work proved fruitful, as he obtained titles of Vice President of Perry Carrington Engineering, as well as the city engineer for the city of Colby (1984-2004). He eventually left his position at Perry Carrington following a buyout of the company by MSA, and worked for Lampert-Lee Associates in Wisconsin Rapids for several years until he retired. However, George found that he still had the itch to work, so he landed a job as Resident Construction Engineer at Robert E. Lee Engineering in Hobart (Green Bay) to come out of retirement. He worked during the summertime, overseeing the construction of street, water, sewer, and paving for the communities of Wrightstown, Pulaski, St. Nazianz, and Oconto Falls, as well as providing services to the city of Green Bay Water Department.

George worked very hard because he enjoyed it, but also because he wanted to give his family the world. He married Marjorie (Guden) Brey in 1992, after meeting by chance and falling in love – George and Marjorie were together for 37 years. They bought some property together and built a beautiful home. Not too long after building the house, their daughter was born. Melissa Brey was born on May 8, 1996, and she would be George and Marjorie’s only child. He loved helping Melissa with her school and 4-H projects. He also enjoyed spending time riding 4-wheelers with her and bringing home stray animals he found to take care of. He devoted his life to providing for his family until his death. Additionally, George wanted to make note of his admiration for his nephew, Paul Cieslewicz. George greatly admired Paul’s development and management of his company, Sand County Equipment LLC, located in Bancroft, Wisconsin. He also wanted to thank Paul for the compassion and kindness he showed to our family throughout the years.

George is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Pittsville; daughter, Melissa Brey of Plover; brothers, John (Darlene) Nansted, and Edward Brey both of Marshfield; brothers-in-law, James Guden of Marshfield, and Dennis (Deb) Guden of Arpin; sisters-in-law, Marce (Joe) Ortner of Pittsville, Marion (Dave) Lang of Marshfield, Mary Lou (Scott) Masanz of Arpin, Susie (Mike) Zdun of Marshfield, and Marie (Dan Varsho) Gudel of Pittsville.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Judith (Ron) Cieslewicz; infant sister, Ruth Brey; father-and-mother-in-law, Phillip and Delores Guden; and brother-in-law, La Vern Guden.

The family wishes to thank Compassus Hospice for their care of George, especially Maranna and Jackie.

George was Marjorie’s rock and husband, and father to Melissa. We will miss you and love you always.
