Marathon County Sheriff’s Department Wishes Retiring Detective Well

By Riley Hebert Sep 20, 2023 | 8:03 AM

Last week, the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department  said goodbye to Detective Dan McGhee as he retired from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office.

Detective McGhee began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in August of 1997.  He worked as a Patrol Deputy before spending some time as a Narcotics Investigator in the Special Investigations Unit and being promoted in May of 2001 to the rank of Detective.

During the time when flip phones and large desktop computers moved to smart phones, laptops and tablets, Dan quickly developed a reputation for having a knack for understanding and examining all of those devices.

Through Dan’s efforts a Forensic Technology Detective position was created.  This eventually turned into a multi-agency team that has advanced capabilities to investigate electronic crimes against children and other major crimes.

Dan has been active in a number of initiatives during his time at the Sheriff’s Office, most notably his work with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) team.

For his work he has been recognized by several organizations over the years. With Dan’s departure there will be a huge void of knowledge and skill.  Thank you Dan, for all you given to the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Marathon County.
