Gerald J. Young, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at House of the Dove Hospice on Monday, July 3, 2023 in Marshfield, WI. He was 88 at the time of his death.

Gerald(Jerry) was born in Marshfield on June 12, 1935 to parents Joe and Marie(Palecek) Young. Jerry graduated from Columbus High School in 1953 and then enlisted in the Army. Jerry met Ardean Sward in Marshfield on Thanksgiving Day in 1956, which happened to be her birthday. They were married on September 28, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Marshfield and raised three daughters. They were fortunate enough to celebrate 65 years of a true love story. Ardean passed away on June 27, 2023 and Jerry followed her less than a week later. It brings great comfort to the family that Jerry, the devoted husband, and Ardean, his beautiful girl, are reunited and together forever.

Jerry was dedicated to community service through organizations including the Rotary, Lions, Knights of Columbus, Elks, and he served on the Board of Directors for the Sheltered Workshop. He was also a dedicated and involved church member. He enjoyed fishing in the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf of Mexico and Canada. Jerry and Ardean spent their retirement in Texas, Arkansas, Arizona and Florida before returning to live in Wisconsin.

Jerry will be dearly missed by his daughters Kathryn (Chris Jahnke)Young of New Carlisle, IN, Lori(James) Brady of Kalamazoo MI, and Ann(Steve) Ronneberg of Naperville, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardean Young, his parents, and an infant son.

Music will be provided by the St. John’s Funeral Choir. Military Rites for Gerald following Mass will be provided by the American Legion Post 54. A visitation will be held on Monday at church from 9am until service time. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Columbus Catholic Schools of Marshfield or House of the Dove of Marshfield.
