Raymond K. “Skipper” Scharpf, age 90, Marshfield, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at House of the Dove, Marshfield.
Raymond was born on April 21, 1933, in Rubicon, Wisconsin, to Joseph and Mary (Grinwald) Scharpf. He attended St. John’s School in Rubicon for eight years until he had to help with the farm work. At the age of 18 he began working for the West Bend Company in Hartford, building outboard motors. He worked his way up to be an industrial electrician at the time of his retirement.
He married Clara K. Walter on February 19, 1955, and they had 68 years together. They lived in Hartford until retirement in 2002 and then built a home on South Twin Lake in Conover, residing there until 2021 when they moved to Marshfield.
At the age of 60, Ray obtained his HSED (high school diploma) which he was very proud of.
Ray and Clara went on several trips from Alaska to sightsee, to Bon Aire scuba diving, and many places in-between, either with their truck camper or on tours.
He is survived by his wife, Clara. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Margaret Krebs and Theresa Lentz and brothers-in-law, John (Kay) Walter and Jack Wiczinski and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by their son Mark in 2010, his parents, his parents-in-law, a brother, Alphonse (Elizabeth) Scharpf, and four sisters, Lucille (Edward) Dietenburger, Camille (Norbert) Huebschen, Marie Scharpf, Dolores (Glen) Jones, sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Mike) Weyer, Dorothy (Robert) Weyer, Eleanor (Lyle) Berge, Ann Wiczinski, Norbert Krebs and Gerald Lentz.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at Shimon Funeral Home, 824 Union Street Hartford, Wisconsin 53027. Family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Saturday, 1:00 p.m.-2:00p.m.
Clara would like to thank the nieces and nephews and friends for all the help during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to The Salvation Army or to St. Jude’s.
